Urethane formulations you can count on.
The self-service machine industry relies heavily on paper handling machines to process currency and checks, and perform billing and other administrative tasks. ATM, ticket handling and postal equipment require precise movement at high speeds, with a constant coefficient of friction so as to avoid jamming or double-feeds.
MPC Banking Application: Traditional rubber components generate tribocharge from friction, but semi-conductive urethane components effectively control charge density for precise toner dispensing. They also reduce tribocharge buildup eliminating potential fire hazards and preventing paper jams during transport. Furthermore, MPC’s specially formulated antistatic components eliminate the need for carbon black or metallic brushes typically used to control ESD in critical paper handling applications.
MPC’s urethane polymers are the material of choice for sensitive self-service machine components like rollers, wheels, pick pads, and foam conveyors. Our formulations possess an excellent compression set, a high coefficient of friction, and unique self-cleaning properties that make them ideal for high-volume paper moving applications.

MPC urethanes are used in antistatic drive belts for silicon wafer transport and also play a vital role in micro-circuitry protection. Applying a thin film top-coat of a highly conductive urethane to computer chips, circuit boards, and other electronic components prevents the buildup and potentially destructive discharge of static electricity in sensitive micro-circuitry.

Castable urethanes are extremely resistant to the swelling and degenerative effects of water immersion and have excellent long-term stability, making them the ideal choice for a variety of marine applications. MPC manufactures solid urethane with a hardness of 50A-80D for use in Naval underwater applications. We’ve also cast tough and flexible ether-based urethanes for use in underwater cable connectors. Ether-based urethanes are specially formulated to prevent bacteria growth and sustain the high pressure and extreme temperatures found in deep-sea environments.

Ether-based or ester-based MDI urethanes with hardness factors ranging from 30A-95A are commonly used for both medical and FDA applications. Urethane prepolymers are cured with special medical and FDA grade curatives. Other castable silicone rubber formulations are used in applications where surface release characteristics and high temperatures (400˚F) are required. You’ll find our medical-grade urethane rollers in a number of medical printing devices including those used for X-ray machines and heart monitors.

MPC manufactures semi-conductive urethanes with volume resistivities ranging from 1E8 ohm.cm to 5E9 ohm.cm for use in a variety of antistatic applications in the telecommunications industry. You’ll find these materials in carrying cases for electronics components and in conductive conveyor belt systems used for transporting cards and disks in clean room applications. Semi-conductive urethane is often used for electronic outfits to reduce static buildup and the potentially destructive discharge of static electricity. In fact, anti-static properties are required by ISO for the use of electronic covering materials.

High-performance, wear-resistant urethanes with a hardness range of 60A to 60D have been used in high-speed textile thread-weaving machines because they provide a stable and consistent coefficient of friction. The result is fewer manufacturing defects and less downtime. By blending a conductive agent into the urethane formulation, we’re able to reduce the potential for generating static electricity and sparks, especially in dry, cold manufacturing environments. Antistatic polyurethanes are also used in textile printing, dyeing, and finishing processes.

You’ll even find these special formulations in the rugged blades used for plowing snow and blending concrete. You’ll find our semi-conductive urethanes in a variety of antistatic transportation applications. Semi-conductive formulations are also used to create ideal surface conditions for electrostatic spray painting in the automotive industry.

Ether-based urethanes have relatively good reversion resistance in high humidity. They possess superior physical and mechanical properties compared to rubbers with the same hardness. Ether-based urethanes are commonly used in parts that are either immersed in water for extended periods of time or exposed to harsh environmental conditions and weather extremes. For example, you’ll find these durable, wear-resistant urethane formulations in fin paddles for boats, and in the rollers used in car wash conveyor systems. Our lightweight, closed-cell, rigid foams are commonly used in the manufacture of surfboards and life-saving flotation devices.
